Crosscurrents Conversations

Happy 2026! As we begin the new year, we’re pleased to announce the launch of “Crosscurrents Conversations” on the Crosscurrents Heritage Center YouTube channel. This series will feature highlight reels from some of our popular events, plus entertaining conversations with experts on various topics concerning the Driftless region.

Our first “Crosscurrents Conversations” features master carpenter Roger Bailey looking at some of the old tools we’ve found at Tippesaukee Farm. He’ll try to figure out when each tool was made, what it was for, and whether it was made by hand or by machine. For our part, we will try to stump him at the end with a Mystery Tool.

Roger was born and raised near Tippesaukee and has been working on old buildings in the area for over 50 years. A true history buff, Roger has worked on all five of the historic buildings at Tippesaukee that date from the 1860s. He has saved four of them from collapsing and will hopefully straighten up the last one—our old corn crib—soon.

For those of you who attended Ben Moffat’s 2024 performance of “Our Guiding Lights,” about the women who inspired the creation of Crosscurrents, or who watched the YouTube version, you already know that at Crosscurrents, it’s not just about the place. It’s about the stuff! We found so many old tools that Roger will be back for another episode later this year.

While you’re at YouTube please consider liking the video, subscribing to our channel, and sharing with friends. Thank you for your support as we celebrate the natural and human history of the Driftless.
